Have you ever noticed that each time you add more programs and more information to your PC it starts to slow down? Does your mind feel like that too? Perhaps your mind needs a 'defrag' and 'tune-up' in order to optimise performance as well?

Thought For The Day
"Putting your nose to the grindstone doesn't necessarily sharpen your mind!"

Did You Know?

  • That every second your brain is bombarded with around two million bits of information?
  • And that your conscious mind can only handle about seven chunks of information per second?
  • No wonder you sometimes feel that you can't keep up, that sometimes you miss things, and that you are may be mentally exhausted at the end of the day. No wonder all that you want to do is 'veg out' in front of the TV, or perhaps your mind just can't switch off after all of this overload?
30-Second Stress Buster Exercise To Sharpen The Senses
After hours of reading (PCs and paper) your senses can be come dulled. Here is a quick and simple exercise to heighten your awareness and bring everything into sharp focus: -

Please note that if you have high blood pressure please only try this exercise for only two rounds to start off with, see how you feel and gradually build up...

  • Take four short breaths in through the nose, fairly quickly, one after the other.
  • Exhale four short breaths, one after the other, through the mouth - this is one round.
  • Repeat for four rounds.
  • Then go back to normal breathing and notice how you feel: you may feel that your heart rate has slightly increased, that you can feel the blood pounding in your veins (particularly in your chest). Look across the room or out of a window; is your vision sharper and clearer? Stop and listen - is your hearing more acute? Does your mind feel more alert and responsive?
  • If this was too strong for you - reduce the number of rounds but practise and see if you can gradually build it up.
  • If you can't feel any of these affects: try again with a few more rounds, or try it standing up and gently shaking your hands while you do it - but don't over do it!
